Two Men Charged in Violent Harlem Home Invasion That Terrified Woman and Child

Two men have been charged in connection with a violent gunpoint home invasion in Harlem that left a 56-year-old woman and her young grandchild terrified. District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr. has called the crime “horrific.”

Justin Torres, 30, and Joshua Gomez, 33, face multiple charges, including robbery, burglary, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

The crime occurred in the early hours of October 9, 2024, when the suspects allegedly forced their way into the victim’s home after arriving in a car linked to Torres. Armed with firearms, they terrorized the occupants, demanding to know the location of a safe while ransacking the apartment.

The suspects reportedly made off with cash, valuables, passports, a cell phone, and a purse before fleeing. They were arrested through a coordinated effort between the NYPD and the Manhattan D.A.’s Office.

Assistant D.A. Danielle Turcotte, supported by Trial Preparation Assistant Laila Skramstad, is leading the prosecution, while Detective Alexis Gaton of the NYPD’s Central Robbery Division has played a key role in the investigation. Other members of the NYPD’s robbery investigation team and the 28th Precinct Patrol and Detective Squad have also contributed to the case.

“This investigation is ongoing, and we will seek full accountability for this horrific home invasion,” Bragg said, emphasizing the commitment to bringing justice to the victims and ensuring public safety.
