Tragic One-Vehicle Collision in Clay County Results in Fatality

A fatal single-vehicle accident occurred in Clay County early Sunday morning.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, they were called to the scene of the crash on Highway 50 in Clay County at about 1:09 a.m.

The MHP reported that a 2001 Honda Accord, driven by 38-year-old Cedrick J. Powell of West Point, Mississippi, was headed westbound on Highway 50 when it veered off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Powell suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.
