CLARION — Jaden Ainley scored 24 points to lead the Clear Lake girls to a 58-29 win at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows last night in North Central Conference girls basketball, as you heard on AM-1490/96.7-FM KRIB and kribam.com. Ainley scored all her points from the field with 11 field goals, including two three-pointers. Clear Lake improves to 10-0 in the conference and 11-4 overall and will travel to Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Friday

CLARION — Clarion-Goldfield-Dows kept their hopes alive for a North Central Conference boys basketball title as they beat Clear Lake 46-40 in Clarion last night, as you heard on KRIB. The Cowboys are tied with Humboldt at 8-1 in the conference after last night’s victory. Clear Lake’s hopes of staying in the race for a fifth straight conference title were dashed with the loss, as the Lions drop to 5-4 in the league. Carson Toebe had 20 points to lead Clear Lake, who will regroup for a trip to Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Friday.

 

MASON CITY — Valley of West Des Moines outscored Mason City 34-14 in the middle two quarters on their way to a 62-42 win last night in Mason City, as you heard on AM-1300 KGLO and kgloam.com. Kale Hobart had 12 points while Malakai Johnson-Bassey added 10 to lead Mason City, as they drop to 3-12 overall and will travel to Ames on Friday.

UNIVERSITY PARK, PENNSYLVANIA — The 23rd-ranked Iowa Hawkeye women opened the third quarter with a 16-3 run and raced away to a 107-79 win at Penn State last night. McKenna Warnock had a career-high 25 points and Caitlin Clark set a Big Ten single game record with 17 assists.

That’s Iowa coach Lisa Bluder. The Hawkeyes broke the game open after leading 52-47 at halftime.

Iowa improves to 7-1 in the Big Ten.

 

 

IOWA CITY — Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery expects Hawkeye recruit Josh Dix will be able to join the team in the fall. The Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln standout suffered a broken leg in a game at LeMars last week and underwent surgery.

McCaffery is confident Dix will have no trouble bouncing back from the injury.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Anthony Edwards had 40 points and the Minnesota Timberwolves rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Portland Trail Blazers 109-107 on Tuesday night. Karl-Anthony Towns had 17 points and 17 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who improved to 24-23 to surpass their win total from all of last season when they finished 23-49. Jusuf Nurkic had 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Blazers. It was his sixth straight double-double, longest streak of his career.
