TONIGHT:
AM-1300 KGLO — Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland — pre-game 6:00, first pitch 6:40

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Royce Lewis became the first Minnesota Twins player to hit a grand slam in consecutive games. He powered a 10-6 victory over the Cleveland Guardians that pushed their division lead to a season-high seven games in yet another team-lifting moment in a major league career that’s only 50 games long. Lewis became the 10th player in baseball history to hit at least three grand slams within his first 10 career homers. He is the first Twins rookie with multiple slams in one season since Danny Valencia in 2010. No other Twins player has ever hit grand slams on consecutive days.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have optioned starting pitcher Bailey Ober to Triple-A St. Paul. The club is continuing to be careful with the right-hander’s workload. The 28-year-old Ober is 6-6 with a 3.67 ERA in 22 starts for the Twins this season. His 122 2/3 innings are a career high for him at any professional level. The Twins had the luxury of making the move because of the recent addition of Dallas Keuchel to the rotation. The 35-year-old right-hander has a 3.50 ERA in four appearances.

CEDAR FALLS — Northern Iowa coach Mark Farley says the Panthers will practice outside this week to get ready for Saturday’s opener at Iowa State. Game time temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s in Jack Trice Stadium. The Panthers worked in the UNI-Dome during last week’s heat wave.

Farley says the opening game always answers a lot of questions. UNI has an experienced team that enters the season ranked 20th in the FCS poll.

Farley says they are not sure who the Cyclones will play at quarterback and tailback with Hunter Dekkers and Jirehl Brock being sidelined by a gambling investigation.

Farley says the biggest adjustment may come from several new assistants on the staff.

The Cyclones have won the last three in the series but the last two have been decided by a total of nine points, including Iowa State’s triple overtime victory in 2019.
