MANCHESTER — The Clear Lake girls have qualified as a team for the state cross country meet. The Lions finished third at the Class 3A state qualifying meet in Manchester with 83 points. Solon won the team title with 40 points, while Clear Creek-Amana was the other state qualifier finishing as the runner-up with 76. Clear Lake sophomore Addison Doughan finished third in the girls race with a time of 19:09. Emily McLaughlin finished 13th in a time of 20:12. Also qualifying as an individual from the area was Lydia Maas of Hampton-Dumont-CAL, who finished sixth in a time of 19:54. Click here for full results

 

MANCHESTER — Clear Lake’s Jack Crane and two Charles City runners have qualified for the boys state meet from the 3A state qualifier at Manchester yesterday. Crane finished seventh in a time of 16:48. Comet sophomores Xander Graeser and Nick Williams finished ninth and tenth in times of 16:52 and 17:01. Charles City finished seventh as a team with 169 points, with Clear Lake finishing one point behind the Comets. Marion won the team title with 52 points. Click here for full results

 

 

MARSHALLTOWN — A pair of Mason City High runners qualified for the state meet from the Class 4A qualifying meet in Marshalltown yesterday. Junior Audra Mulholland finished sixth in the girls race in a time of 19:07 as the Riverhawks finished sixth as a team with 130 points. Ankeny Centennial won the girls team title with 44 points. Jess Cornick finished 13th in the boys race in a time of 16:22, as Mason City finished sixth in the team competition with 168 points. FORT DODGE — The NIACC volleyball team was swept at Iowa Central last night, 25-19, 25-14, and 25-11. Kyla Moore had seven kills and two blocks, Kennedy Schwiesow had five digs and an ace, while Ryley Wetlaufer had two kills, 16 assists, five digs and an ace to lead NIACC. The Trojans drop to 10-25 overall and 3-5 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference and will host Iowa Lakes in their regular-season finale next Wednesday.

 

IOWA CITY — When Iowa visits 2nd-ranked Ohio State on Saturday, it will be a homecoming for Hawkeye tight end Luke Lachey. The sophomore is a native of Columbus and his father is the color analyst on the Buckeye radio broadcast. Jim Lachey was an All-American offensive lineman at Ohio State and spent 10 seasons in the NFL.

Lachey grew up going to Ohio State games and was disappointed when the Buckeyes did not offer him a scholarship.

Lachey is not sure he will get the chance to visit with his dad.

Kickoff in Columbus is scheduled for 11 o’clock with the pre-game at 9 o’clock on AM-1300 KGLO.

 

 

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Rudy Gobert had 23 points and 16 rebounds in his Minnesota debut as the Timberwolves recovered to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 115-108 in the season opener. D’Angelo Russell had 20 points and Jaden McDaniels added 19 points for the Timberwolves. They turned a 16-point lead into a six-point deficit during the third quarter. Gobert stepped up when Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards shot a combined 6 for 27 from the floor. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 32 points and cut the lead to 105-103 with 4:04 left. They didn’t get closer after that.
