MASON CITY — Iowa Central outscored NIACC 23-11 in the fourth quarter as the Tritons picked up a 60-49 victory in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference women’s basketball last night in Mason City, as you heard on AM-1300 KGLO and kgloam.com. NIACC led 21-20 at halftime and 38-37 after three quarters. Jackie Pippett and Nora Francois each had 12 points to lead NIACC, as they fall to 13-7 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

 

MASON CITY — The NIACC men led 47-31 at the half and held off Iowa Central in the second half for a 74-65 win, as you also heard on KGLO last night. Bradley Andrews scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Trojans while Jacques Kelly added 14. NIACC improves to 15-5 overall and 5-3 in the conference. Both NIACC teams travel to Southwestern on Saturday.

 

STILLWATER, OK — Iowa State finally broke through on the road in the Big 12 in overtime. Isaiah Brockington scored 26 points as the 23rd-ranked Cyclones beat Oklahoma State 84-81 last night.

Iowa State coach T.J. Otzelberger. The game featured 28 lead changes and neither team led by more than four points.

Otzelberger was happy with the way his team bounced back from a home loss to TCU.

Iowa State is now 3-5 in the Big 12 and will host Missouri on Saturday as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

 

 

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Garrett Sturtz scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and his two free throws with 1:24 remaining in overtime were the game’s final points and Drake beat Illinois State 89-88. DJ Wilkins and Tucker DeVries each had 18 points to lead the Bulldogs, who are now 15-6 overall and 6-2 in the Missouri Valley. Antonio Reeves had 25 points for Illinois State. Drake hosts Loyola on Sunday at the Knapp Center

 

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — AJ Green posted 18 points as Northern Iowa edged past Evansville 64-59. Evan Kuhlman led the Purple Aces with 13 points. UNI is now 10-9 overall and 5-3 in the Valley and will host Illinois State on Saturday.

 

 

IOWA CITY — Winners of three of their last four, the Iowa men are at home tonight against 6th-ranked Purdue. Iowa is 4-4 in the Big Ten and must answer the physical challenge the Boilers offer in the paint.

That’s Iowa coach Fran McCaffery who says the Hawkeyes want to push the tempo.

Iowa’s defense and rebounding has improved in recent weeks and McCaffery says that needs to continue.

Iowa leading scorer Keegan Murray missed the first meeting against Purdue with an ankle injury. It was a 77-70 Hawkeye loss in Mackey Arena back on December 3rd.

Tipoff tonight is scheduled for 8 o’clock with the pre-game starting at 7 o’clock on AM-1300 KGLO.

 

 

AMES — The 13th-ranked Iowa State women outscored Kansas 24-12 in the opening quarter and cruised to a 77-62 win last night as the Cyclones snapped a two game losing skid. ISU coach Bill Fennelly.

Ashley Joens had 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Cyclones visit Texas Tech on Saturday.

With the win Iowa State improves to 6-2 in the conference.

 

 

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have hired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as their general manager. The team is taking an innovative turn with an Ivy League-educated data expert from Cleveland’s front office who once worked on Wall Street. The 40-year-old Adofo-Mensah was vice president of football operations for the Browns for the past two years. He was one of two finalists the Vikings identified from an initial pool of eight candidates. The other was Kansas City executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles, who was hired as Chicago’s general manager.
