Residents of the Ozarks were treated to a mesmerizing sight on Saturday night as a Chinese satellite hurtled towards Earth and reentered the atmosphere. The falling satellite created a captivating display that captured the attention of many in Springfield, Missouri.

Astronomer Jonathan McDowell reports that the satellite Superview 1-02 made its reentry into the atmosphere close to New Orleans. However, it was visible in multiple states, including Missouri and Arkansas.

KY3 viewers have been generously sharing their pictures and videos capturing the sight of the falling satellite.

NASA reported that China launched the satellite in December 2016. This satellite was part of a constellation used for civilian remote sensing. It consisted of four satellites orbiting in the same plane at an altitude of 500 km.
