Mississippi Woman Dependent on Oxygen Passes Away During Storm Power Outage

Lowndes County Woman Dies After Medical Emergency During Power Outage

A 68-year-old woman in Lowndes County, Mississippi, passed away early Sunday morning following a medical emergency at her home, according to Coroner Greg Merchant.

The woman, who relied on daily home oxygen, lost electrical power due to severe storms in the area, which limited her access to oxygen. She contacted Lowndes County 911 at approximately 12:40 a.m.

First responders and an ambulance arrived at the scene but found her unresponsive outside her vehicle. Efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Coroner Merchant noted that the woman had an extensive medical history. Her identity will be released once all family members have been informed.

Governor Tate Reeves confirmed the fatality on Sunday afternoon, marking the second storm-related death reported in the state.
