Garner-Hayfield-Ventura cancels classes today due to surge of COVID cases in Hancock County

GARNER — The surge in COVID cases in north-central Iowa has prompted one local school district to cancel classes for today.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura school district says due to Hancock County’s 14-day average positivity rate being at 20.2% and with the anticipation that the positivity rate going higher throughout this week that there will not be school today.

The district says scheduling wise they will treat the cancellation like a snow day.

The district says they’ll make decisions about the rest of the week later today.
