Clear Lake councilman says city should support Mason City’s RAGBRAI application

CLEAR LAKE — It appears the Clear Lake City Council in the near future will draft a letter of support for Mason City’s application to be an overnight stop on the Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, commonly known as RAGBRAI.

Second Ward councilman Bennett Smith suggested the letter to his fellow council members this week.  “Mason City has decided to apply for an overnight stop on RAGBRAI. We’ve been fortunate enough here in Clear Lake to have RAGBRAI I think three times in the last few years, twice as an overnight stop and once as a pass through. I just think it would be appropriate, a good thing for us to perhaps offer a letter of support for Mason City and their application to the RAGBRAI folks for that. I’d love to see them get that actually.”

The council informally approved city staff drafting a letter of support that they could approve at their next meeting on October 7th. The RAGBRAI route and overnight stops will be announced on January 25th.
