Tragedy struck a Walmart parking lot in Georgia as a toddler accidentally shot himself while his parents were shopping just a few feet away. The young child lost his life in the unfortunate incident.

According to a report by WALB, on the afternoon of July 3, Nakyzi Odums, a two-year-old child, was left unattended in a car while his parents were purchasing fireworks from a nearby stand.

According to eyewitnesses, Nakyzi’s parents were alerted by the sound of a gunshot and quickly returned to their car. To their horror, they discovered that their young son had accidentally shot himself in the chest. The child was immediately rushed to a hospital in Douglas, Georgia, but due to the severity of his condition, he was later transferred to a trauma center in Jacksonville, Florida. Tragically, the young boy passed away on Saturday, as announced by the police in a Facebook post.

Investigators are currently determining how the toddler was able to obtain the firearm, according to Douglas Police Chief Brannen Pruette.

He stated that the investigation is ongoing to establish the precise details of the incident.

According to witnesses, Nakyzi was seated in the car’s front seat when the gun, which may have been in the side of the car door, was discovered, as reported by WALB.

Pruette emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of children when there is a gun in the car. While it is permitted to have a gun in the vehicle, precautions must be taken to ensure that the child cannot access it.

There is uncertainty regarding whether charges will be filed against the parents involved in the incident, who have been identified by family members as Sam Odums and Laileighauna Parks. Recent arrest reports viewed by The Independent do not list their names.

Police have stated that they are currently investigating the incident to gain a better understanding of the exact circumstances surrounding it.

During this challenging period, we express our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the family.

Candi Brinson, the child’s grandmother, has recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the family in covering the burial expenses and to provide them with the necessary resources to grieve and mourn their loss.

According to her, Nakyzi was a cheerful and loving boy who always had a bright smile on his face, laughed with all his heart, and showered unconditional love on others.
