Kansas’ unclaimed $1 million Powerball prize winner’s time is running out

The lucky winner of a $1 million Powerball prize in Kansas Lottery is running out of time. As the clock ticks away, the winner must claim their prize soon. This exciting news comes straight from TOPEKA, Kan. via KSNT.

The excitement of winning a $1 million lucky ticket is usually unparalleled. However, the winner of such a prize in the Sunflower State is now under a time crunch as the September deadline for claiming the winnings is fast approaching.

According to a written statement from Cory Thone, a representative of the Kansas Lottery, Powerball prize winners are given a one-year deadline to claim their winnings. However, the deadline for the largest unclaimed prize in Kansas, which amounts to a substantial sum, is quickly approaching on September 27, 2024.

According to the policy of the Kansas Lottery, any unclaimed prize money will be returned to the prize pool for future winnings if not claimed by the designated date. Thone is determined to increase awareness about the unclaimed prize and hopes to do so before the deadline expires.

According to Thone, it’s quite uncommon for a prize as large as this to remain unclaimed. However, it’s not entirely unheard of for a player to wait for a few months before claiming their winnings. With this in mind, Thone is hopeful that the lucky winner is simply taking their time before coming forward.

The prize money for the winning numbers 1-7-46-47-63 with a Powerball of 7 would amount to $710,000 after 5% state tax and 24% federal tax on cash, but only if claimed by Sept. 27. The ticket was purchased in the south-central region, which covers several counties including:

    • Barton
    • Rice
    • McPherson
    • Marion
    • Stafford
    • Reno
    • Harvey
    • Pratt
    • Kingman
    • Sedgwick
    • Butler
    • Barber
    • Harper
    • Sumner
    • Cowley
