BUFFALO — It was one and done for Iowa in the NCAA Tournament. Iowa’s offense grinded to a halt and a late rally fell short in a 67-63 loss to Richmond in Buffalo on Thursday in the first round of the Midwest Regional, as you heard on AM-1300 KGLO.

That’s sophomore forward Keegan Murray, who led the Hawkeyes with 21 points. Iowa made only six of 29 from three point range. Senior guard Connor McCaffery.

It brought to an end the career of Iowa guard Jordan Bohannon.

Iowa used an 11-0 run in the second half to take a brief lead the Spiders controlled nearly the entire second half.

That’s Iowa coach Fran McCaffery. After winning nine of 10 games the Hawkeyes shot only 36 percent to close the season with a record of 26-10.

Richmond now faces Providence in the Midwest Regional second round on Saturday.

 

 

 

MILWAUKEE — Iowa State opens the NCAA Tournament tonight in Milwaukee against Louisiana State. Senior guard Izaiah Brockington says the Cyclones will need to deal with LSU’s pressure defense.

Senior guard Gabe Kalscheur says the Cyclones need to limit turnovers.

After winning only two games a year ago the Cyclones are back in the tournament for the first time since 2019.

That’s ISU coach T.J. Otzelberger who says the Cyclones relish the role of underdog.

Tipoff for Iowa State-LSU is scheduled for 6:20 this evening and can be seen on TBS.

 

 

 

IOWA CITY — Carver-Hawkeye Arena will be sold out today when the 8th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes open the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament against Illinois State. The Hawkeyes are coming off the championship at the Big Ten Tournament.

Iowa coach Lisa Bluder. Attendance could set a new NCAA record.

Illinois State is 19-13 after winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Tipoff between Iowa and Illinois State is scheduled for 3 o’clock this afternoon, with the pre-game starting at 2:45 on AM-1300 KGLO. Colorado and Creighton collide in this afternoon’s first game.

 

 

 

AMES — The 10th-ranked Iowa State women open the NCAA Tournament tonight with the late game in Ames against the University of Texas-Arlington. It is the first time in three years the tournament is utilizing a normal format.

That’s ISU coach Bill Fennelly who says the NCAA Tournament is about surviving.

Fennelly says the only focus is on the current game.

Tipoff for Iowa State and Texas-Arlington is scheduled for 9:00 PM. Georgia plays Dayton in the first game this evening.
