Latham reacts to Obama speech on oil spill
WASHINGTON --- North-central Iowa Congressman Tom Latham says the federal government’s response to the Gulf Oil spill has been poor and it’s time for President Obama to step up efforts. He says Obama talking about going forward all sounds good, but the concern is being two months into the disaster and what hasn’t been done and the denial of help from outside sources. Latham says Obama seemed to use his Oval Office speech on Tuesday night as more of an opportunity to push his agenda than to address fixing the spill. He says Obama spent about a third of the speech about new opportunities for more government control and higher taxes instead of spending it on solving the problem. An Associated Press poll indicates that 52-percent of Americans disapprove of Obama’s handling of the oil spill crisis. That disapproval rating is about the same as President George W. Bush had after Hurricane Katrina. Obama’s overall approval rating is stable at about 50-percent.
Latham was on the KGLO "Midday Report" with News Director Bob Fisher. A copy of the interview can be found this afternoon on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/kglonews
