Mason City man sentenced on federal meth dealing charges

A Mason City man has been sentenced to more than 11 years on federal methamphetamine charges.

30-year-old Jacob Johnson pleaded guilty on March 17th to one count of conspiracy to distribute meth and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The US Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa’s office says evidence shows that between May 2019 and October 2019, Johnson and others conspired to distribute at least 35 grams of pure meth in northwestern Iowa.

In June 2019, Johnson and a co-conspirator sold fake meth to an individual. In October 2019, Johnson and a co-conspirator agreed to sell more meth to the same individual and make good on the previous transaction. After a vehicle pursuit, Johnson and his co-conspirator were caught with two ounces of meth intended for the same individual. Officers also seized a sawed off shotgun and an axe during a search of the vehicle.

US District Judge Leonard Strand sentenced Johnson on Friday to 140 months in prison, followed by a four year term of supervised release.
