Mason City hits 100 degrees for first time in two years, second time in 28 years

MASON CITY — For the first time in two years and for only the second time in 28 years, the thermometer in Mason City saw 100 degrees on Wednesday.

The temperature reached 101 degrees at 2:31 PM yesterday, giving Mason City its first triple digit temperature since June 17th, 2021 when the thermometer registered 102. Prior to that, the last time Mason City hit 100 was July 13th, 1995.

The old record high for Wednesday was 100 set back in 1948.

Today is another day of expected heat with an Excessive Heat Warning in effect until 7 o’clock tonight.
