King Charles III and Queen Camilla touched down in Canada on Monday to commence a royal visit, which will feature the opening of Parliament, described by Prime Minister Mark Carney as having great significance in the current era.
Upon their arrival in Ottawa Monday afternoon on the Airbus CC-330 Husky, one of the nine new planes obtained by the Royal Canadian Air Force, the King and Queen were welcomed by Carney, Gov. Gen. Mary Simon, and a group of Indigenous and government officials. They interacted with Canadians who had gathered to witness their arrival.
Later, the King and Queen accompanied Carney and Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe to a farmer’s market and community event at Lansdowne Park. King Charles participated in a ceremonial puck drop for a street hockey game and engaged with vendors while strolling through the bustling courtyard.
