ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Minnesota Twins tied a franchise record with eight home runs — including two apiece by Miguel Sano and Jonathan Schoop — in a 16-7 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. It is the third time in franchise history and second time this season Minnesota has had eight homers.

The Twins, who lead the AL Central by eight games over Cleveland and ten games over the Chicago White Sox and as well have the best winning percentage in all of Major League Baseball, tonight start a five-game homestand, hosting the White Sox for three this weekend before entertaining the Milwaukee Brewers in interleague play on Monday and Tuesday. Tonight’s game against Chicago starts at 7:10 with a 6:30 pre-game show on KGLO. It’s 1:10 first pitch start times on Saturday and Sunday, with the pre-game at 12:30 on KGLO.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Iowa-Nebraska game at the Big Ten Tournament has been postponed until Friday morning because of inclement weather in the Omaha, Nebraska, area on Thursday night. The Ohio State-Maryland game prior to that Thursday was delayed 95 minutes because of a thunderstorm and more rain was expected late at night.

MASON CITY — Top-ranked in Class 1A Newman had their game with Charles City on Thursday postponed due to wet grounds in Charles City, so the Knights decided to host Clear Lake in a make-up from Tuesday night’s rainout. Newman jumped out with three in the first and then scored three in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth for a 10-1 win over the Lions. Newman is 2-0 and is scheduled to host Garner-Hayfield-Ventura tonight. Clear Lake drops to 1-1 on the year and are off until next Thursday when they travel to Roland-Story for a doubleheader.

DECORAH — The Mason City High baseball team picked up their second win of the year, a 10-4 decision at Decorah last night. Harrison Nagel went six innings for the Mohawks, scattering six hits and walking none to get the win. Sophomores Alex Gold and Connor Dalen led the way offensively. Gold had three hits and two runs batted in while Dalen and a pair of doubles and two runs batted in. Mason City is 2-0 on the season and will travel to Spirit Lake tonight.

FORT DODGE — Clear Lake sits in a tie for 7th place after day one of the 3A boys state golf tournament in Fort Dodge. The Lions shot a 319 and are tied with Oskaloosa. Nevada is the team leader with an even 300 after the first day, with Spirit Lake three shots back and Spencer seven shots. Two shots separate the teams between fourth and seventh place, with Central Dewitt and Norwalk tied for fourth with 317 and Pella in sixth at 318. In the medalist race for Clear Lake, Tate Storbeck is tied for 15th with a 76, Tyler Eaton is tied for 23rd with a 78, Jack Barragy is tied for 34th with an 81, Carter Backhaus is tied for 45th with an 84, Eric Ritter is tied for 51st with an 86. Brandon Larsen of West Delaware shot a three-under 69 to lead the individual competition.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Mike Modano has decided to return to his NHL roots in Minnesota. The Hall of Fame center was named executive adviser to Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold and president Matt Majka. It is a newly created position that Modano will assume on Sept. 1. He played the first four of his 21 seasons in the league with the North Stars before the franchise moved from Minnesota to Dallas in 1993. With the Wild, Modano will focus on sales, corporate partnerships and community relations.
