Clear Lake Community School District PPEL levy extension passes

CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake Community School District voters have approved an extension of the district’s Physical Plant & Equipment Levy.

Back in November, voters had approved upping the PPEL levy from 67-and-a-half cents to $1.34 per $1000 taxable valuation for the remainder of the currently existing PPEL that sunsets at the end of June 2025, but they turned down a second ballot question extending the levy beyond June 2025.

Voters on Tuesday approved that extension by a 166-109 vote. PPEL funds are used for technology, safety equipment, buses, equipment and to put towards construction, repairs or remodeling.

== There was a special city election in Swaledale Tuesday as well. In the mayor’s race, Rodney Bergman had 20 of the 30 total write-in votes, beating Laura Starbuck who had four and a scattering of six other ballots. In the city council race, Joyce Andersen won with 18 vote. Darwin Hanson, who was not on the ballot, had 14 votes, while the other candidate on the ballot Tollin Marwarren had a total of seven.
