Charles City man given suspended prison sentences, probation for burglary, willful injury

CHARLES CITY — A Charles City man guilty of hitting a woman with a gun has been given suspended sentences in the case.

40-year-old Tristan Walker was accused of striking a woman several times in the head with a gun while she was sitting in a car in a parking lot in the 2100 block of Clark Avenue on August 11th 2018. The assault caused a golfball-sized lump on her head.

Walker was charged with first-degree burglary, going armed with intent and willful injury causing bodily injury. As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, Walker pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary, going armed with intent and willful injury causing bodily injury.

District Judge DeDra Schroeder earlier this week issued suspended prison sentences of 10 years on the burglary charge and five years on the other charges, placed him on five years probation, and ordered him to be placed in a residential facility in Mason City or Waterloo.

Another woman involved in the incident, 32-year-old Tasiana Stephens, pleaded guilty last year to willful injury causing bodily harm and was sentenced to five years in prison.
