Cerro Gordo supervisors approve East Thornton Urban Revitalization Plan

MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors today approved adopting the East Thornton Urban Revitalization Plan. It will allow the North Iowa Cooperative to upgrade its large-scale grain bins and its shipping operations as part of an expansion that would be located east of Thornton adjacent to the city limits on County Road B-65.

County Planning and Zoning Administrator John Robbins says the approval allows for tax abatements to be used in assisting North Iowa Cooperative to complete the project.

As part of the project, two dry grain bins 105 feet in diameter and 128 feet tall would be constructed, with the addition of one wet bin that would be 84 feet in diameter and 128 feet tall. The cooperative also has future development plans over the next 10-20 years to possibly include an anhydrous ammonia storage site and solar farm.
