It was a decision that left many fans and players disappointed: back in 2017, the Edmonton Elks terminated the contract of their long-serving equipment manager, Dwayne Mandrusiak.
Mandrusiak was a key member of the Edmonton squad that clinched five consecutive Grey Cup titles during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Known for his meticulous attention to detail, Mandrusiak was highly regarded within the CFL community.
He was also recognized for his community involvement, providing assistance to youth and high school football teams with their equipment needs.
Following his dismissal, Mandrusiak assumed the role of equipment safety advisor at the CFL Players’ Association in 2021.
The CFLPA expressed intentions to leverage Mandrusiak’s knowledge and background to enhance equipment standards, ultimately promoting health and safety.
Recently, the Edmonton football franchise revealed that he is making a comeback to the team.
