Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has announced the scheduling of three byelections set for June 23.
The three ridings up for grabs are Edmonton-Strathcona, Edmonton-Ellerslie, and Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills.
Opposition NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi will be contesting in Edmonton-Strathcona, left vacant by the resignation of former premier Rachel Notley last year.
Alongside candidates from Alberta’s major parties, separatist candidate and Alberta Republican Party leader Cam Davies is also entering the race in Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills.
The vacancy in this riding occurred when former legislature Speaker and United Conservative representative Nathan Cooper stepped down to take on the role of Alberta’s representative in Washington, D.C.
Edmonton-Ellerslie was left without a representative in March when three-term NDP member Rod Loyola resigned to run for Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberals in the recent federal election.
Nominations for candidates are currently being accepted and will close at 2 p.m. on June 5.
Advance voting is scheduled to take place from June 17 to 21.
The official election results are expected to be disclosed on July 3.
