A striking mural adorns the windows of The Cabin Pub + Party in downtown Edmonton, paying tribute to the Edmonton Oilers and attracting attention from passersby.
Lalith Senanayake, an acclaimed artist from Sri Lanka, collaborated with his son Don on this project.
“We are passionate Oilers supporters. Our admiration for the team runs deep, and my personal favorite player is (Connor) McDavid,” Lalith expressed.
The idea for the mural emerged recently with a vision to commemorate a significant period in Edmonton Oilers hockey. The team is currently ahead 2-1 in the best-of-seven Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Stars.
The next game, Game 4, is scheduled to take place in Edmonton on Tuesday.
“This mural is a tribute to their journey to bring the Stanley Cup back home, so we are creating this artwork in celebration of their success,” Don elaborated.
The artwork features prominent Oilers figures like McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, as well as the team’s mascot, Hunter, painted on the windows.
“We want to showcase the incredible effort and skill invested in this project and give people the opportunity to appreciate it,” Don remarked.
The management of The Cabin, located on Jasper Avenue and 116 Street, mentioned that the mural has been receiving a considerable amount of attention.
“Pedestrians walking by are frequently expressing amazement at the artwork, saying, ‘Wow, this is fantastic!’” recounted Pankaj Sor, one of the pub’s owners.
“The response has been overwhelmingly positive — individuals are capturing photos of it.”
The mural is expected to be completed within the next few days.
