A retired leader of Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center has had an eventful week in Jackson, Mississippi.

On Wednesday, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves appointed Bobby Ginn as the new Adjutant General of Mississippi. This comes just after Ginn’s recent promotion to major general on Monday.

On August 1st, Ginn will begin his adjutant duties after previously serving as the commander of Camp Shelby from July 2017 until November 2020.

In Mississippi, the oversight of around 12,000 National Guard soldiers and airmen, as well as bases, training centers and equipment, falls under the responsibility of the adjutant general.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves expressed his gratitude towards Major General Bobby Ginn for his lifelong commitment to service, stating that he has displayed an impressive and unwavering dedication to the state, military, and nation throughout his entire military career. Reeves also expressed his thankfulness towards Ginn for accepting the new role.

“I have complete confidence in him and I know he will continue to lead the Mississippi National Guard to its fullest potential.”

Major General Janson D. Boyles is retiring and will be replaced by Ginn.

Reeves expressed his gratitude to Major General Janson Boyles for his exceptional service to the state of Mississippi. He acknowledged that the leadership provided by Boyles has made the National Guard better, stronger, and more prepared.

Starting in 1990, Ginn began his military journey as a soldier in the enlisted ranks.

He joined the Mississippi National Guard’s Officer Candidate School back in 1993 and was commissioned as a supply officer for headquarters and headquarters company, 114th Area Support Group.

He became a platoon leader in 1994 and took command of the 367th Maintenance Company in 1999.

He has held multiple positions over the years, including serving as Shelby’s commander.

Ginn’s most recent position was as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics.

After completing his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, Ginn went on to earn a Master of Strategic Studies from the prestigious United States Army War College.
