The National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City has issued a warning of gusty thunderstorm winds expected to hit Utah this afternoon and evening. The western part of the state is likely to experience the highest chances of 50-60 mph wind gusts. As a precautionary measure, residents are advised to remain weather-aware and be prepared to take shelter when storms approach.

According to the threat assessment released by the NWS, there is a high risk level for severe storms in the local area, with a possibility of isolated storms occurring from 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. The southern part of Utah is likely to be affected between 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., while the west desert may experience storms from 4 p.m. to midnight. The Wasatch Front may encounter severe thunderstorms from 7-11 p.m. Heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts are expected, especially in the areas shaded in dark green on the weather map.

Salt Lake City is set to have a sunny day despite the storm forecast, with temperatures expected to reach a high of 92°F and wind gusts of up to 8 mph. The extended forecast predicts that the skies will remain clear and temperatures will remain high throughout the weekend and into next week. On Saturday and Sunday, the temperature is likely to peak at 92°F and 91°F, respectively.

Temperatures for the upcoming week are expected to remain in the low to mid-90s. On Monday and Tuesday, highs are predicted to reach 91°F and 96°F, respectively. Clear skies are anticipated to persist throughout the week. However, by Friday and Saturday, temperatures will rise to 99°F. It’s crucial for residents to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against the heat. It’s also important to stay informed about the severe weather threat today.
