The Arizona Humane Society waives the adoption costs for large-breed dogs

All large-breed dogs weighing 50 pounds or more are eligible for adoption at no cost, according to the Arizona Humane Society.

According to a news release from the Arizona Humane Society, this is a fantastic opportunity to bring home a loving, devoted companion while also helping to alleviate overpopulation at Valley shelters.

The state’s largest animal rescue service is still struggling with capacity numbers, and large-breed dogs spend the most time in shelters compared to smaller canine residents. The AHS has over thirty suitable large-breed dogs, twelve of whom have been at the shelter for more than a month.

The charity reported that a hoarding issue led to the discovery of twelve dogs on a property in one of its most recent dog rescues.

The shelter rescued Ernie, a tan and black Sharpei mix, and Fester, a beige Sharpei mix, from the property and treated them at its trauma hospital. They are now up for adoption.

They’ve been waiting for permanent homes at the shelter for about two months, according to AHS.

AHS has responded to over 10,000 requests for animal help from Valley residents this year, and in return, we encourage those who are able to adopt.
