Mercy officials say man involved in chemical incident at West Campus dead

MASON CITY --- One person is dead after a chemical spill last night on the West Campus of Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. A news release from Mercy says that a sodium hydroxide spill happened in the hospital’s “Textile Service Department”. During the situation, one of Mercy’s associates had a medical emergency. The Mason City Fire Department and Ambulance Service was call and unable to revive David Weaver, who has worked with Mercy for 15 years. Four firefighters and four other Mercy associates involved in the incident were also evaluated and later released. Mason City Fire Chief Bob Platts says they assisted hospital officials in containing the leak to the Textile Services area. He says once the fire department arrived, they realized that chemicals had been released in an area where they are used…that area was cordoned off until a private company came in to clean up the product. Platts says the chemical spill was well contained and has already been cleaned up. He says it was mostly contained to one room, and none of it got out into the environment. Hospital officials say the investigation into the incident continues.

One person injured after chemical spill on Mercy West Campus

MASON CITY --- One person was injured after a chemical spill last night on the West Campus of Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. Mason City Fire Chief Bob Platts tells KGLO News that his department responded to Mercy’s West Campus at about 7 o’clock last night, where a sodium hydroxide leak in the facility’s laundry area known as “Textile Services” caused one person to stop breathing. The leak was contained to one room in the building. More details about this story coming up on the Midday Report on AM-1300 KGLO.

Water main break disrupts service in Nora Springs

NORA SPRINGS --- There's a water main break in the area of 2nd St. NW in Nora Springs. Citizens in and around the areas of 1st St. NW and 3rd St. NW may be without water. Crews are in to make the repairs, but citizens may be without water until late this afternoon.
