IOWA CITY — Kris Murray had 25 of his career high 30 points in the opening half as 25th ranked Iowa cruised to a 100-64 win over Omaha in Iowa City on Monday night, as you heard on AM-1300 KGLO. The Hawkeyes shot 56 percent and had 24 assists to improve to 4-0.

Murray finished 13 of 17 from the field, including four three pointers.

Iowa played without junior guard Tony Perkins who is nursing an injured thigh. Iowa coach Fran McCaffery.

The Hawkeyes play Clemson Friday night in the Emerald Coast Classic in Florida.

 

 

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, Virgin Islands —- Drake weathered a second half rally to beat Tarleton State 71-64 to win the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands on Monday night. The Bulldogs never trailed and iced the game by making 25 of 31 from the foul line as they improve to 5-0. It was the 100th career win for Bulldog coach Darian DeVries in just his fifth season at the helm.

Tucker DeVries was five of five from the field and made all eight of his free throws to finish 22 points. He was named the tournament MVP.

Drake is off until Saturday when they host Louisiana at the Knapp Center.

 

 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Led by Khalil Shabazz’s 24 points, the San Francisco Dons defeated the Northern Iowa Panthers 75-69 on Monday in Kansas City in the first game of the NABC Hall of Fame Classic. Garner-Hayfield-Ventura alum James Betz finished with 19 points for the Panthers (1-2). Bowen Born added 16 points, six rebounds and five assists for Northern Iowa. In addition, Tytan Anderson had 14 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. The Dons improved to 5-0 with the victory and the Panthers fell to 1-2. The Panthers play today against Grand Canyon University in their final game of the Hall of Fame Classic

 

 

AMES — The Iowa State women are ranked 5th in the latest Associated Press poll. The Cyclones are 4-0 after a win over Columbia on Sunday and it matches the highest ranking in program history.

That’s coach Bill Fennelly who says it is good exposure for ISU.

Senior forward Ashley Joens on being ranked in the top five.

The Cyclones play Michigan State Thursday night at the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland. The Iowa women dropped from 4th to 9th in the AP poll this week after being upset by Kansas State last week.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Karl-Anthony Towns had 25 points and Anthony Edwards scored 10 of his 22 in the third quarter as the Minnesota Timberwolves outlasted the shorthanded Miami Heat for a 105-101 victory. Jaden McDaniels added 18 points for the Timberwolves, and Jordan McLaughlin hit a career-high four 3-pointers as Minnesota won its fourth straight game. Kyle Lowry led the Heat with 21 points and Max Strus added 19. Bam Adebayo, playing in back-to-back games while dealing with a knee injury, had 17 points and 14 rebounds for Miami, which has lost four in a row.
