Oklahoma contractor is facing embezzlement accusations

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond has confirmed that a contractor from the Tulsa area is now facing 17 counts of felony embezzlement and one count of engaging in a pattern of criminal offenses. This comes after an in-depth investigation conducted by the AG’s Consumer Protection Unit.

The office of Attorney General Drummond has announced that charges were filed against Todd Douglas Briggs, the operator of T Briggs Construction and Oasis Pools and Outdoor Living, in Creek County. Briggs has been accused of allegedly defrauding 17 customers by accepting over $1.2 million for home or pool construction projects that were never completed, or for which he failed to pay subcontractors.

“I am committed to holding accountable anyone who engages in deceitful business practices to take advantage of hardworking Oklahomans. I appreciate the work of the attorneys, investigators and staff in the Consumer Protection Unit as we pursue justice for the families who were exploited.” Attorney General Gentner Drummond

In July 2023, Briggs shocked his customers by announcing his bankruptcy filing, despite having received significant payments from them just days before. As a result, many customers were left with unfinished projects and faced the threat of liens on their homes from unpaid subcontractors.

According to the latest release from AG Gentner Drummond, consumers in Tulsa, Jenks, Broken Arrow, Owasso, Collinsville, Sapulpa, Bixby, and Beggs were affected.

If you suspect that you have fallen victim to contractor fraud, Drummond advises reaching out to the Consumer Protection Unit at 1-833-681-1895 or visiting Oklahoma.gov/oag.
