Harris reported that Cottrell informed the family he would ensure his dog could handle the fireworks.

According to Harris, “I never saw him again” after he checked on the dog.

Later, they discovered Cottrell’s shoes and cell phone in the backyard of the house, according to Harris.

According to AL.com, several nearby homes captured footage from Ring cameras showing Cottrell running through yards.

“He looked like he was seeking refuge,” said Harris. “He ran for his life.”
