Arizona Vouchers Boom: enrollment rises to nearly 100,000, far outstripping predictions

Arizona – According to recent reports, the Arizona Department of Education is predicting that the enrollment in the state’s school voucher program will surge to almost 100,000 students in the coming year. This projection is significantly higher than the earlier forecast announced by legislative budget analysts earlier this year.

According to the Department of Education, the number of students enrolled in the voucher program is currently just under 75,000. The department anticipates that this number will rise to 99,135 by the end of June 2025. However, legislative budget analysts previously estimated that the enrollment would only increase to 82,500 students for the upcoming school year.

Projections have often differed in the past.

In May 2023, the department projected voucher enrollment would reach 100,000 students by the end of June this year. However, their projections were proven inaccurate when legislative analysts accurately predicted that enrollment would actually reach approximately 75,000 by June of this year.

According to the Department of Education, the estimated cost for the upcoming year is $864 million, which is slightly higher than the $825 million projected by legislative analysts in January.
