Massive Recall: Snow Tires Pulled for Insufficient Traction in Winter Conditions

Over 541,000 Winter Tires Recalled for Insufficient Traction in the U.S.

Prinx Chengshan Tire North America (PCTNA) has announced a recall of more than 541,000 winter tires sold across the United States due to insufficient traction, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In a letter sent to the NHTSA on Monday, PCTNA detailed the recall involving approximately 541,632 Fortune Tormenta and Prinx Hicountry winter replacement tires. The affected products, sold in over 100 sizes, are marked with three-peak mountain snowflake symbols.

While the tires passed European safety tests, the company acknowledged they likely do not meet U.S. safety standards, specifically in providing adequate traction under all snow conditions. Insufficient traction in snow can significantly increase the risk of accidents.

PCTNA is currently developing a remedy for the issue and plans to notify tire owners via mail starting February 1, 2025.
