HAMPTON — Clear Lake opens up district play tonight by heading to Hampton-Dumont-CAL in Class 2A District 3. The #2 team in Class 2A is 4-0 after wins over Osage, Waverly-Shell Rock, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, and Mason City, and Lions coach Jared DeVries says his team is still taking an attitude into district competition of playing one snap at a time and not looking too far into the future.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL is coming off their first win of the season, beating Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 33-0. DeVries says with a new head coach, the Bulldogs do look a little bit different.

You can hear the Clear Lake/Hampton-Dumont-CAL game on AM-1490 & 96.7-FM KRIB and kribam.com starting with the pre-game at 6:45 with kickoff slated for 7:30.

WAUKEE — Mason City High opens up Class 4A District 6 play with a road trip to Waukee. The Mohawks are 0-4 heading into district competition but coach Brandon Krusey says he feels his team has had a good week of practice.

Waukee is 1-3 on the season, with those losses coming to top-ranked Valley, second-ranked Dowling, and seventh-ranked Southeast Polk. You can hear the Mason City-Waukee game on AM-1300 KGLO and kgloam.com with the kickoff at 7 o’clock, and the pre-game show starting sometime after 6:30.

MASON CITY — It’s homecoming at Newman, as the Knights look to bounce back from a tough loss last week to Central Springs by facing Starmont. Newman is 1-3 after their 27-21 loss to the Panthers last week, but they will host a Starmont team that is 0-4 and have been outscored by a 196-0 margin. You can hear the Newman-Starmont game on 93.9 KIA The Country Moose and 939kia.com starting with the pre-game at about 6:45, with kickoff scheduled for 7 o’clock.
