Appointments Now Required at Social Security Offices Beginning in January

Social Security Administration Expands Appointment-Based Services in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Social Security Administration (SSA) is expanding its appointment-based services at local offices, including the facility at 811 East 30th Suite A in Hutchinson.

The move aims to reduce wait times, enhance service efficiency, and improve the overall customer experience.

Nearly 400 SSA field offices have already transitioned to appointment-based services this year, resulting in significant reductions in wait times and more streamlined visitor experiences.

The SSA reports that many services can now be accessed by phone with an appointment or completed online, eliminating the need for customers to visit the office in person.

Starting January 6, 2025, the SSA will require customers to schedule appointments for in-person service, including requests for Social Security cards.

Those unable to complete their business online or through automated options can contact their local office or the National 800 number at 1-800-772-1213 to schedule an appointment. The hotline also provides automated assistance to help resolve most issues.
