In a hidden barn in Oklahoma, a 1968 Oldsmobile 442, believed to possess a rare “factory 455” engine, has been discovered after being lost for almost four decades. This remarkable find has ignited a wave of enthusiasm among classic car enthusiasts, as the presence of the 455 V8 engine suggests that this 442 might be one of the sought-after Hurst/Olds models, making it a highly valuable collectible.

In 1968, the Oldsmobile 442 underwent significant changes, becoming its own series and introducing a 400 engine that boasted a standard 350 horsepower. However, the most desirable version of that year was the exclusive Hurst/Olds, which featured a robust 455 V8 engine with an impressive 390 horsepower. With only 515 units ever produced, these limited-edition models have become highly sought after by collectors. Recently, a barn-find 442 was discovered, reportedly equipped with a “factory 455” engine, sparking speculation that it could potentially be one of these rare and coveted models.

The car, despite its potential, requires extensive restoration as it has been stored for decades. According to the seller, the frame remains in good condition, but the body, interior, and mechanical components will need significant attention to bring the car back to its former glory. With a price tag of $4,700, this project car presents a unique opportunity for classic car enthusiasts who are willing to invest their time and resources into its restoration. If confirmed as a Hurst/Olds, the car’s value could increase substantially once fully restored. However, the journey to reach that point will undoubtedly be a labor of love.
