Woman Faces 20 Years in Prison After Attempting to Mask Drug Smell with Crawfish

BILOXI, Miss. (WJTV) – A woman from North Carolina pleaded guilty to a felony charge after attempting to mask the scent of drugs with crawfish in her rental car while traveling through Mississippi.

According to the Sun Herald, 38-year-old Sherika Leake entered the guilty plea on Monday, December 16, for a federal drug offense. Leake was arrested in July 2024 during a traffic stop on Interstate 10.

Prosecutors revealed that Harrison County deputies discovered 22 pounds of cocaine, valued at over $350,000, hidden in Leake’s rental car. They stated that she had driven the vehicle from North Carolina to Texas to collect the drugs.

Leake is scheduled for sentencing in April 2024, where she faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $1 million.
