One Dead in Early Morning House Fire in Brocton

A house fire in the Village of Brocton claimed the life of one person early Wednesday morning. Firefighters from Brocton and Portland responded to the scene at 94 Old Mill Road shortly after 5:00 AM, with assistance from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s Tech Rescue Team.

Once the fire was brought under control, the county’s Fire Investigation Team determined that the blaze had started in the ceiling area of the basement. Authorities discovered a male occupant dead inside the residence, although his identity has not yet been released.
