Suspect in Salina Machete Attack Faces Attempted Murder Charge

Salina Man Attacked with Machete Following Dispute

SALINA, Kan. — A violent altercation in Salina escalated when a man was attacked with a machete on Friday afternoon, police reported.

The incident occurred before 1 p.m. in the 400 block of South 4th Street. Authorities stated that the 48-year-old suspect and the 38-year-old victim had been drinking the night prior, leading to an argument during which the suspect threatened the victim with a knife and stated he would “choke him out.”

The following day, the suspect arrived at the victim’s residence and struck him with a machete between his eye and nose. The resulting injury was severe, exposing bone and tissue, police said. The victim was transported to Salina Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.

Police apprehended the suspect at a motel on South Broadway in Salina. The weapon, reportedly still bearing the victim’s blood, was recovered at the scene.

The suspect faces requested charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, and criminal threat. Authorities noted that the prior threats contributed to the elevated charge of attempted first-degree murder.

As per KSN’s policy, the suspect’s identity will remain undisclosed until formal charges are filed.
