Stay Warm: East Texas Communities Open Shelters During Cold Wave

East Texas Prepares for Cold Snap with Warming Centers and Shelters

TYLER, Texas — With the first cold wave of 2025 set to hit East Texas on Monday, several communities are opening warming centers and shelters to assist residents during the chilly nights. Below is a list of locations that have been made available to the public:

Palestine

The Palestine Police Department announced that City Hall, located at 504 N. Queen Street, will serve as a warming station during evening and nighttime hours from January 5 through January 11.

“If you or someone you know needs a warm place to stay during these cold nights, please spread the word and make use of this resource.

Updates will be shared on our page and the City of Palestine, Texas – Community Information,” stated the Palestine Police Department.

Texarkana

The Randy Sams’ Outreach Shelter, located at 402 Oak St., is open around the clock, providing 24/7 shelter to those in need.

Statewide Resources

For those outside East Texas, the Texas Division of Emergency Management offers an interactive map showing warming centers and shelters across the state.

This list will be updated as additional warming centers become available. Stay safe and help spread the word to ensure everyone has access to a warm and secure place during the cold weather.
