The Port of Galveston Police have identified the man whose body was found in a submerged vehicle in Galveston Harbor on Friday morning.

Cameron Sharman, a 32-year-old resident of La Marque, was found in the driver’s seat of a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

According to the police, a truck was captured on port security video driving from Pier 20 into the water at 2:14 a.m. Pier 20, which is a working pier situated in a commercial area of the port, is open to the public.

Police received a notification at approximately 11:30 a.m. about a potential submerged vehicle following reports of a damaged wooden railing on the pier.

An investigation was initiated by the police after they reviewed security footage that revealed the pickup truck driving into the water.

Before noon, a patrol boat from the port police was summoned to the location and employed sonar technology to locate the submerged vehicle, which was approximately 29 feet below the surface.

The visibility in the water was so poor that it was unclear if anyone was in the cab until the truck was brought to the surface.

The authorities recovered the pickup truck from the water at around 7 p.m. on Friday. It is suspected that Sherman was the sole individual present in the vehicle when it plunged into the water.

The Port of Galveston Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the incident. If you have any information that may be helpful, please contact the authorities at (409) 766-6169.
