Palmyra Man Arrested for Burglary and Attempted Rape in Canandaigua

CANANDAIGUA, NY (WENY) — A 55-year-old man from Palmyra was arrested on December 17, 2024, by the City of Canandaigua Police Department on multiple charges, including first-degree burglary, attempted first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, and first-degree criminal contempt.

Authorities allege that between December 13 and December 14, 2024, Brian E. VanCaeseele unlawfully entered a residence in Canandaigua, where a physical altercation occurred.

During the incident, VanCaeseele reportedly held the victim in the home against their will for approximately eight hours and attempted to engage in unwanted sexual conduct.

At the time of the incident, a court-issued order of protection was in effect, which was meant to prevent VanCaeseele from contacting the victim.

VanCaeseele was processed and transported to the Ontario County Jail, where he was arraigned in CAP Court. He was remanded to jail without bail and is scheduled to appear in Ontario County Court.
