Montgomery Man Sentenced to Eight Years in Federal Prison for Drug, Gun Charges

A man from Montgomery has received a federal prison sentence after being found guilty of charges related to drugs and firearms, as reported by the Department of Justice.

Arthur Varcea Colvin, aged 23, was sentenced to eight years in prison on March 4, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson in a press statement.

Court documents and Colvin’s indictment reveal that on February 1, 2023, officers from the Montgomery Police Department observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation and initiated a stop. Colvin was seated in the front passenger seat, while 28-year-old Le’Anthony Washington was driving, with another passenger in the back.

“Officers suspected the presence of illegal drugs in the vehicle and asked all three individuals to exit,” stated the DOJ.

Upon searching the vehicle, law enforcement discovered three firearms: a .40 caliber handgun positioned under the driver’s seat, an AR-15 pistol beneath the front passenger seat, and a 9mm handgun located on the back floorboard. Additionally, over 400 grams of marijuana were found in the trunk. Authorities also located a handgun and a small quantity of marijuana on Colvin himself.

Colvin entered a guilty plea on October 28, 2024, admitting to charges of marijuana possession with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking offense.

Washington, who has prior felony convictions, also pleaded guilty in October of the previous year for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to 35 months in federal prison in January.

Officials have stated that Colvin will undergo three years of supervised release after completing his prison term. It is important to note that federal inmates are not eligible for parole.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Montgomery Police Department, with prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle R. Turner.
