Man Convicted of Murder in Galena Gets Life Sentence, 50 Years for Shooting

Galena Man Sentenced for Murder Following April 2023 Shooting

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. – A Galena, Kansas, man was sentenced for the murder of Levi Porter, 27, of Riverton, Kansas, after being found guilty in June.

Billy Barker, 50, was convicted on charges of first-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and criminal carrying of a weapon following a three-day trial. The charges stemmed from the fatal shooting of Porter, which occurred on April 18, 2023, in the 800 block of North Columbus Street in Galena.

Barker was sentenced to 12 months for criminal possession of a weapon and another 12 months for criminal carrying of a weapon. He received a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 50 years for the murder. Authorities reported that Barker shot and killed Porter during the incident.
