Kansas City Proposal Seeks to Mandate Ground Contact for All Vehicle Wheels

Kansas City Considers New Ordinance to Curb Dangerous Driving

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City City Council is evaluating a proposed ordinance aimed at enhancing road safety by requiring all wheels of a vehicle to remain in contact with the ground at all times.

Introduced by Councilman Wes Rogers last month, the measure is scheduled for review by the Transportation, Infrastructure, and Operations Committee on January 7. The ordinance is part of the city’s effort to address and prevent dangerous driving practices.

If enacted, the rule would apply to both motor vehicles and motorcycles. Violators could face municipal citations with penalties including up to 180 days in jail and fines ranging from $250 to $1,000. The proposal also outlines stricter consequences for repeat offenses.

City officials hope the ordinance will deter risky behaviors on the road and promote safer driving conditions for all residents.
