Skeletal Remains Discovered in Sedgwick County, Investigation Underway

Authorities in Sedgwick County are investigating the discovery of skeletal remains found Monday evening. Deputies responded to reports of the remains beneath a tree behind a closed business in the 4800 block of South Clifton around 6 p.m., according to Branden Stitt, a spokesman for the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, investigators were unable to determine the individual’s identity, age, or gender at the scene.

The Sedgwick County Coroner and an anthropologist were called to assist in examining the remains. The remains were later transported to the Regional Forensic Science Center for further analysis to establish the person’s identity.

Detectives are reviewing local missing persons cases and are working closely with the forensic science team as the investigation continues.

Authorities urge anyone with information related to the case to contact the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at (316) 660-5300.
