According to reports, a man from Greenwood barged into a couple’s home uninvited while they were having breakfast, wielding a baseball bat and starting a physical altercation, disrupting their peaceful morning.

A Level 5 felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon and Level 6 felony charges of residential entry, intimidation, and battery have been filed against Justin B. Wheat, 42.

According to the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office, Wheat has a pre-existing relationship with the victims, although the nature of their connection has not been disclosed. Court records reveal that Wheat and one of the victims have a child together, as confirmed by paternity hearings.

According to court documents, Wheat was subdued by the victims before the officers arrived on the scene. He is accused of making threatening statements towards the Greenwood police officers, such as “I’ll kill you.”

Upon his arrest, Wheat emitted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, according to police reports.

According to the victims, Wheat had a background in baseball, as they shared with the police.

According to court records, Wheat had already been issued a protective order by the female victim and her son. Additionally, a sheriff’s deputy had formally trespassed Wheat from the female’s residence just one day prior to his alleged return with a baseball bat in hand.

In the event of a conviction, Wheat could potentially be sentenced to a maximum of six years in prison for a Level 5 felony.
