Fatal Crash Involving Peterbilt Truck on Highway 61

Missouri Man Dies in Pike County Semi-Truck Crash

A fatal crash in Pike County claimed the life of a 64-year-old Cape Girardeau man on Wednesday evening. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 8:10 p.m. on southbound Highway 61, just south of Pike County Road 53.

The 2007 Peterbilt 379 semi-truck the man was driving veered off the roadway, crossed a gravel road, and collided with a ditch. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, sustained critical injuries.

Emergency responders transported him via Survival Flight helicopter to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, where he was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m. by Dr. Gina Davis.

The semi-truck was totaled in the incident and was removed from the scene by Heartland Towing. Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with other emergency personnel, assisted in the crash investigation.
