Law enforcement authorities have successfully apprehended a suspect involved in a fatal shooting incident at a residence in Sedgwick County, Kansas.

According to jail booking records, 18-year-old Sergio Rodolfo Vargas was arrested on Friday by the police for the crime.

According to police spokesman Andrew Ford, police responded to a reported shooting in the 2300 block of Mascot in Wichita just after 11 p.m. on November 6.

First responders discovered two victims at the scene, a 49-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman named Deanna Garcia.

As the male victim was getting ready for bed, he heard multiple gunshots outside their home. Unfortunately, he was hit by a bullet in his lower left leg. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital by Sedgwick County EMS. Thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening.

Garcia suffered severe injuries from a gunshot to her upper body. Medical professionals rushed her to the hospital, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at 11:54 p.m. according to Ford.

Vargas has been taken into custody and is currently being held at the Sedgwick County Jail. The charges against him include felony murder, discharge into an occupied dwelling, and aggravated battery.
