The Christmas holiday may bring travel disruptions for millions of people as meteorologists caution about the potential impact of harsh wintry weather conditions.

As the holiday week approaches, various regions of the country are expected to experience rain, thunderstorms, fog, and snow.

Forecasters are closely monitoring a coastal storm that is projected to hit on Friday night, potentially covering several states with a blanket of snow. Travelers should be cautious of slippery roads during this time.

The East Coast could face heavy traffic delays due to rain, particularly along Interstate 95, until Thursday. Cities such as Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia will have pleasant temperatures in the mid- to upper 50s on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, a sudden cold spell is expected to bring cooler weather by Thursday.

Accuweather is warning of a potential snowstorm during the winter holiday in the Northeast and near the Great Lakes. The heaviest snowfall is expected in northeast New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and south-central Maine. As many as 18 states could experience travel delays caused by snow.

Early travelers in the Tennessee Valley and Deep South should prepare for potential delays caused by rain and thunderstorms. According to the Express US, Nashville will experience highs in the upper 50s to 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday, but temperatures are expected to drop to the upper 40s by Thursday.

Memphis may also see some rain in the middle of the week, but the temperatures are expected to stay mild. In the Huntsville, Alabama area, thunderstorms are forecasted for Tuesday and Wednesday, and the temperatures will be in the mid-60s. However, there will be a cool down on Thursday as the temperatures drop to the early 50s.

Cities on the West Coast are getting ready for a week of rainy and foggy weather that might lead to delays. Seattle is bracing itself for rain, with temperatures ranging from the upper 40s to lower 50s on Thursday.

Meanwhile, San Francisco expects cooler temperatures and foggy conditions, with temperatures around 60 degrees on Tuesday.

Los Angeles is eagerly anticipating a sunny week ahead, with mostly clear skies and temperatures ranging from the low 70s to low 80s. Meanwhile, Phoenix is also in for a treat with abundant sunshine as temperatures climb into the 80s on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Salt Lake City, on the other hand, will be greeted with cooler temperatures and cloudier skies. Accuweather has also confirmed that a white Christmas is a guarantee for those at higher elevations in the Rocky Mountains out West.
